Transforming Exhibition Booths into Works of Art

The Godrej Design Lab - ID16 exhibition booth stands out as a unique and innovative display that combines art, technology, and design. Designed by Prashant Chauhan, this booth showcases the winning designs of the Godrej Design Lab competition, providing visitors with an immersive experience into the world of design and innovation.

The booth features a collage of suspended and popping iPad screens, creating a dynamic chandelier that scrolls through images of the designs, sketches, and the evolution pictures of each prototype. This captivating display captures the essence of the design process, allowing visitors to witness the journey from conceptual sketch to prototype development.

Each prototype is individually showcased in kiosks, where an audiovisual presentation explains the design and its evolution. The use of video walls further enhances the visitor's understanding of the design process, showcasing the various stages of design, prototyping, and experimentation.

The booth's design also reflects the concept of a laboratory of design, where experimentation is a second nature. The industrial look, achieved through the use of cement sheets to clad the walls, old industrial windows, and mild steel frameworks, creates an atmosphere of work in progress. The intention behind this design choice is to evoke a sense of curiosity and exploration, inviting visitors to engage with the prototypes and the design process.

The Godrej Design Lab - ID16 exhibition booth was fabricated remotely at a workshop and then assembled on-site. The modular design allowed for easy assembly and ensured that the fabrication process was completed within a tight timeframe. The booth's dimensions of 6000mm x 16000mm x 3600mm were customized to fit the space, and the on-site fabrication was completed in just 72 hours.

This innovative exhibition booth was showcased at India Design 2016, an expo that celebrates the best in design across India. The project, which began in November 2015, involved meticulous planning and coordination to meet the deadline. The entire fabrication process took place at ZERO9's warehouse in Mumbai before being transported to Delhi for assembly.
